The Pet Store
Phillip recognized that Semmes Alabama was growing by leaps and bounds so he decided he would fulfill his dream of opening a pet store somewhere in the Semmes area. He found what he thought was an ideal location on Schillingers Road.
Business was really good and one day, a guy named David, who lived up around the Spice Pond Road area, came in looking to buy a parrot. David goes into the pet store and asks Phillip if he had any parrots. Phillip told him that he had a couple of very young parrots that had not learned to talk yet and he had acquired one very experienced parrot from a guy that dropped him off at the store before leaving town.
David decided he would purchase the experienced parrot because he would probably be more fun to have around.
When David got the parrot home, he quickly found out that the parrot had a bad attitude and worse vocabulary. Every other word was an obscenity. Those that weren’t expletives, were to say the least, rude.
David tried hard to change the bird’s attitude and was constantly saying polite words, playing soft music, anything he could think of. Nothing worked. He yelled at the bird and the bird yelled back. He shocked the bird and the bird just got more angry and more rude.
Finally, in a moment of desperation, David put the bird in his food freezer, just for a few moments, to try and quite him down. He heard the parrot squawk and scratch and screach – and then suddenly, there was quiet; dead silence.
Panic stricken, David thought he might have made a big mistake and hurt the bird so he quickly opened the freezer door.
The parrot calmly stepped out and said “I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I’ll endeavor at once to correct my behavior. I really am truly sorry and beg your forgiveness.”
David was astonished at the bird’s change in attitude and was about to ask what had made such a dramatic change when the parrot continued, “By the way, may I inquire as to what the frozen chicken in the freezer did?“
