Score a big win for GMO opponents. This past Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, the US Senate announced they would let the Mosanto Protection Act expire at the end of September.
The act protected large biotech firms like Mosanto from lawsuits and barred federal intervention even if genetically-engineered foods caused damage to one’s health.
The US House of Representatives approved a three-month extension to the act but the Senate version stted the act will expire September 30, 2013.
The Center for Food Safety said the Senate’s eradication of the rider was “a major victory for the food movement” and a “sea change in a political climate that all too often allows corporate earmarks to slide through must-pass legislation.”
