The City of Semmes – November 16, 2017
Mayor David Baker announced today the appointment of Debra A. Hanbury, MMC, as City Clerk for the City of Semmes. Ms. Hanbury will be supervising the daily operations of the City Administrative Office, under the direction of Mayor Baker. In a Special Called meeting of the Council, Mayor Baker and the Council joined enthusiastically in voting to appoint Ms. Hanbury to this key leadership position in the Semmes City government.
Ms. Hanbury brings 26 years of prior experience in municipal government to the young City of Semmes. She has worked in various departments in city government including a Police Department, Planning Department, City Manager’s Office, Community Services, and 16 years in a City Clerk/Mayor’s Office. While in the City Clerk’s Office, she worked extensively with Planning Department issues presented before City Councils, compiling agendas, preparing minutes, processing ordinances/ resolutions, placing legal ads, as well as fulfilling the responsibilities as the City’s Records Manager overseeing records management for all City departments. Ms. Hanbury worked closely with City Attorney’s ensuring all legal requirements were fulfilled.
Ms. Hanbury achieved her Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) status in 2004 from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and received the prestigious Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) designation in 2012.
Ms. Hanbury, who resides, with her husband Jeff, in the County near Semmes, also brings with her a sunny disposition appropriate to Semmes and has been applauded by those who have worked with her in municipal government for her positive outlook and cooperative spirit.
Ms. Hanbury’s appointment is in keeping with Mayor David Baker’s stated goal of moving the City government upward in professionalism and dedication to responsive public service.
