One point that I would like to make.
I have heard this statement made several times now, that if we were “involved”, we would know the truth about what is going on in Semmes. This is a tired, worn out excuse that does not make a valid point. Every single person that spends as little as a dollar is involved in this city. Our tax dollars are what support this city. It’s not feasible to think that everyone who cares about the city can show up at meetings or pick up trash on the side of the road.
The real issue is how these tax dollars are represented by our government. I understand that we have a several million dollar reserve, which is probably due in part to the fact that sales taxes were raised a couple years ago by a half cent. No one has said that the city is broke.
But one thing we are saying is that there have been so many incidents of deception, inclusion, tyranny, rudeness and disrespect -that a large number of citizens have lost both trust and respect for certain members of the current administration. It’s not “hope and change” that we seek. It’s simply a return to common decency.
I’m sure that the current administration has a large circle of friends, church families and constituents that will support them no matter what. There is also a large group of people who think that merely building parks and planting pretty bushes is sufficient evidence of a properly maintained government. That’s their right and the opposition accepts that! But throwing rocks, stealing signs, blocking FB members, getting attitudes and petty behavior with people who see through the veil is just desperate behavior.
