Did You Know You Can Reach 911 By Texting?

Did You Know You Can Reach 911 By Texting? Our call this morning to the Mobile County Communications District, 911, confirmed that texting 911 is available for residents of Mobile County if the cell phone carrier is Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T or Sprint. The goal of providing texting capabilities is to provide texting to 9-1-1 capability to the residents who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability, as well as others who need to use text in emergency situations. How to text 9-1-1 in an emergency:

• Enter the numbers “911” in the “To” field;
• The first text message to 9-1-1 should be brief and contain the location of the emergency and type of help needed;
• Push the “Send” button. • Be prepared to answer questions and follow instructions from the 9-1-1 call taker.

Stroke Fact Sheet

A 911 call saved my life

When I walked into the locker room at work, I realized something was wrong. I couldn’t speak. I tried to pick up my lock, but my right hand couldn’t grab it. One of my co-workers noticed something was wrong and asked if I could write. With my left hand, I scribbled 911 on a piece of paper.
