Cardiovascular and Chemical Exposure Risks in Today's Training Ground

Cardiovascular & Chemical Exposure to Firefighters

Hazards to firefighters on the fireground have changed in the past 30 years as households contain more furnishings made of plastics and synthetic materials. These not only increase the speed of the fire but also create much more dangerous smoke and gases, exposing firefighters to even more related health issues. The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is hosting a webinar focusing on the Illinois Fire Safety Institute’s (ISFS) recent research on cardiovascular and chemical exposure risk. It will give an overview of recent studies conducted at IFSI Research, the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, and Underwriters Laboratories and focus on some leading health risks on today’s fireground and training ground. This webinar will describe studies and initial results, such as the “Interim Report: Cardiovascular and Chemical Exposure Risks in Modern Firefighting” (PDF, 6.69 Mb).
